From Picnic Table to Post-and-Beam Farm
Stand:
One Sunday, some volunteers were reminiscing about selling
apples from picnic tables near the now-burnt barn and out of the
back of their trunks as they stood in front of the post-and-beam
farm stand being constructed. Of course, in between the picnic
tables and the post-and-beam structure, there was the little gray
shed that now serves the important role of supplies-keeper.
But, what about the post-and-beam farm stand? The idea of building the farm stand sprouted from the Barn
Team after the Old Barn burned. The Barn Team is a subgroup of the
Friends of Sholan Farms whose goal was to restore the original barn
and whose goal now is to re-build the original barn, but in the mean
time, they thought of the farm stand.
Team members inspired with the idea of the farm
stand were Eric Starbard, Steve Smith, Allan VanWert, Don Piermarini,
David Erickson, Mayor Mazzarella, Mike Marini and Joanne DiNardo.
The barn designer and builder is Eric Starbard.
Eric also mills the beams at his lumber mill, and is said to cut the
beams with a chain saw.
Helping the build the farm stand are Phil
Catorio and Dave Erickson's team.
Here are some pictures of the construction of our new
farm stand!
